A lot of people think that weight loss programs for men are entirely different than those created for women. While this is true to a point, the best type of weight loss plan is one that involves healthy eating, which is important for both men and women.


The biggest difference in men’s and women’s diet plans is that men usually require a higher daily caloric intake than women do. Other than that, the main thing is to try to eat healthy foods, and make sure that you are getting enough of all of the proper nutrients that our bodies need.


Avoid Fad Diets


We see advertisements all the time for new diets and exercise equipment. You see commercials for “miracle” weight loss drugs and programs, as well as all kinds of nutritional supplements that are supposed to turn us into lean, mean fighting machines. The problem with all of this stuff is that it doesn’t work. Well, let’s rephrase that. Some of it does work, but not any better than a sensible diet and exercise plan does.


Do You Need to Go to the Gym?


Are you one of those men who thinks that the only way you are going to get into great shape is to spend every waking moment in the gym? This really isn’t what you need to lose weight. Yes, you do need to get plenty of exercise, but there are other ways to get it other than spending a lot of money to go to a gym. Some of the best things you can do to help you lose weight and stay in shape include:


  • Jogging – You can jog anywhere at any time. If the weather is bad, you can get an inexpensive treadmill for your home. Some models fold up so they can be stored out of sight when you are not using them.


  • Stationary Exercises – You don’t need to go to a gym if you want to exercise. You can do things like sit-ups, push-ups and other stationary exercises just about anywhere, even in your office. A removable bar in a doorway is all you need to be able to do chin-ups, and if you have the space, you can use your own punching bag and other exercise equipment right at home.


  • Household Chores – Mowing the lawn, raking, cleaning the garage and other chores are all great ways to burn calories. The work needs to be done anyway, so why not use it to your advantage?


Make Your Weight Loss Own Plan


If you really want to lose weight in a healthy way, you need to start eating healthy foods. Sit down with your physician or dietician to find out which foods you need to have, and which ones to avoid. You will need to stay below a certain daily caloric intake (that number will depend on how much weight you want to lose or if you just want to stay healthy), eat the right foods, and get plenty of exercise. This is better than many of the diet programs for men, because it encourages healthy weight loss and a continued healthy lifestyle.
